Mention independent watchmaking and you will probably think of watchmakers like Philippe Dufour and Kari Voutilainen. These are people who build entire watches by hand from start to finish - movements, dials, cases, etc... However, there is another type of independent watchmaking, and these are people who do not necessarily design or make their own movements, but still make certain aspects of watches on their own. A good example of this is Steampunk Clothing, we take existing movements, modify them and decorate them.

The watches have a stainless steel case from 38 to 44 mm brushed well treated. Also note the crown in full view, without crown guard. This is necessary to make the watch easy to wind. The watches have a mechanical movement with manual or automatic winding thanks to the integrated rotor.

The dial is 'skeletonized', but what makes it unique is that it is made of stainless steel, a material that, because of its hardness, is not commonly used for dials (especially skeletonized dials).

The movement inside was chosen mainly for its size and robustness. Of course the quartz watch is banned here, reinforcing the transparent design and style with the least compromise is important. The skeletal bridges are beveled with a black sandblasted rhodium-plated finish to create a contrast with the dial.

The pendulums used have an attractive pattern. Although the movement has been modified, it retains most of its functional characteristics, so it beats at 2.5 Hz and has a power reserve of approximately 48 hours.

As you can see, independent watchmaking comes in many forms, and even though we do not have the expertise or the means of the great watchmakers, our watches, while not luxury watches, are of good workmanship at an affordable price.
